I have been teaching in the London for just over 5 months. I came over here with my partner. We both have the two year working visa. The last 5 months have gone by very quickly we have been able to see some of Europe and the UK in this time. We had a memorable experience in the Netherlands where we had the opportunity to watch the start of the cycle tour of Spain (yes! In the Netherlands!). On top of the race, the Netherlands were very beautiful and the people very friendly.
Though destinations such as France and Italy have more to offer, the Netherlands were awesome. As well as a great place to base yourself for travelling London itself has opened up new opportunities for meeting new people, having access to almost anything and the chance to find a freedom and independence that you don't experience in your own country.
As a teacher from Australia I was not aware of how easy or difficult it would be to get a teaching appointment or even teaching work. The first step in giving me the best opportunity to get some teaching work was to contact UK teaching agencies. The first agency I contacted was A* Star and they were the first agency to call me. In the months before we moved I had regular phone and email correspondence with them, which kept spirits high. When we got to London it was within that week that I met the team and by the start of the next week I was teaching. I've taught at some challenging schools and also some very good ones.
At the present time I am working in a beautiful school with brilliant students and great work colleagues. We are coming in to winter and the days are getting shorter, but I am looking forward to the Winter in Europe. We are going to enjoy some sightseeing in Austria and Switzerland, possibly some skiing too.
I can't really tell you how hard it would have been without A* Star's team effort in getting me work at the end of the school year (we arrived end of May, and July is when school breaks for the year). I can tell you that in comparison to other agencies they offer a very personalised service.
You may not know it now, but in an unfamiliar place this is so important. Without the A* Star team I would have had a much more stressful time starting out in London.
